Kingswood 2010

June 11th 2010 was the day we were to embark on our latest visit to the Kingswood Centre at Bembridge on the Isle of Wight. The children and the teachers all arrived at school at 6.00am in the morning. The coach was due to leave at 6.30am. By the time the normal school day started we had already been travelling for over two hours.

This first set of photographs shows our journey to the Isle of Wight. Along the way we would encounter coaches, lorry drivers with loud horns, ferries and tanks!!

As well as having lots of exciting activities at the Kingswood Centre we would also be able to spend time ‘chilling out’ down the local beach. The scenery was magnificent and there were also plenty of rock pools to explore (and fall into if your name is Barnaby Bear).

Flying through the seaside air on the Zip Wire was one of the most thrilling and highly anticipated activities at Kingswood. From the top of the Zip Wire tower could be seen a view of the entire Kingswood site as well as the local beach and the deep blue ocean.

At the very end of the Zip Wire, inside a black tyre, was a twenty pound note and a bag of Haribo sweets for anyone who could fly that far. No-one has been successful in grabbing this much coveted prize…yet…

The Archery activity gave our pupils chance to develop their hand/eye co-ordination as they were given the opportunity to improve their bow and arrow skills.

The Kingswood Centre gave our children lots of opportunities to develop their ICT skills.  They would be taught to combine text, sounds, music and graphics as well as using their Sherlock Holmes detecting talents to solve a crime.

There was never time to relax at Kingswood. Our children were always on the go. When they weren’t exploring underground shelters they would be making their beds or climbing local cliffs or firing lasers or eating. There was lots of eating at Kingswood!

The fear of heights is something which everyone is encouraged to overcome at Kitwell. You’ve already seen the Zip Wire photos. Here is a set of photos which shows our children learning how to climb mountains!!

Team Challenge requires concentration, endurance, co-operation, teamwork…and the ability to hang off loads of rope and look daft. There are lots of photos to see here so make a cup of coffee and pull up a comfortable chair.
